Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defeated Pep Guardiola’s Man City 1-2 Man Utd at the Etihad Stadium today, Saturday night, 7th December, 2019.
Guardiola’s champions, look to keep pressure on Liverpool after a dominant display against Burnley on Tuesday, were initially shocked by United’s attacking football, particularly in the opening half hour. Marcus Rashford’s penalty and an Anthony Martial strike gave Solskjaer’s side a two-goal advantage at the break.
Manchester United had big chances, with Gabriel Jesus heading wide and referee Anthony Taylor (and VAR) turning down the hosts’ appeals for a penalty. City’s defence was their weak point, with Guardiola electing to start Angelino at left-back. Luke Shaw took over that position for United, the defence was breached by Otamendi’s headed effort from a corner.
