Serena Williams suffered the primary singles lack of her Fed Cup career, but the United States overcame Latvia to e book their spot inside the Finals on Saturday.
Trailing 2-zero in Washington, Latvia’s fightback commenced with Jelena Ostapenko’s win over Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.
Williams’ unbeaten file in singles became then ended through Anastasija Sevastova, who recorded a shock 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 7-6 (7-four) victory over the 23-time grand slam champion.
But USA moved into April’s Fed Cup Finals thanks to Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands, the duo triumphing the doubles over Ostapenko and Sevastova 6-4 6-zero.
